L*A*W Speaks On LL Cool J & Brad Paisley Collabo

Lil Wayne Disrespects Emmitt Till & The MAJORITY Of Hip-Hop Elite Said Nothing…….

Rick Ross Pops Mollies In Females Drinks To Have Rape Sex With Them & Only a FEW speak out or even worse DEFEND him…..

LL Cool J & Brad Paisley opens up a Race Discussion in wanting to bring the races & musical cultures together for the future regardless of background, ancestry & past tumultuous history with their song “Accidental Racist” & WE DISS, BITCH, OVERANALYZE & COMPLAIN ?!!  In the words of the great Ed Lover….COME ON SON !!!!!!!!!

WELCOME TO THE HYPOCRITICAL LAND OF HIP-HOP !! WHERE DO I START ?!!

As most of us have seen, there has been quite an uproar over the new song collaboration between LL Cool J & One of my favorite Country Artists Brad Paisley. Being the serious Hip-Hop Head & Historian I am as well as a serious Country Music fan (My Ipod Can Go From Rakim to Garth Brooks at ANY given moment), I for one am glad that this particular topic has FINALLY been addressed. Because for so many years & among CERTAIN people, there has always been this underlying tension between Hip-Hop & Country Music Culture. It started when Kanye West openly & for NO REASON dissed the INCREDIBLY talented Gretchen Wilson & of course, his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift’s Speech At MTV Awards. Some Country fans who didn’t like Rap to begin with found every reason in the world to not like the genre after that & in return, Most Rap fans frowned at Country Music or from the gate, labeled it as uncool. Example: In the hood, It was very rare to find a black or hispanic kid that had the balls to say that they love Randy Travis and NOT GET LAUGHED AT OR POSSIBLY JUMPED. My idol Lionel Richie was the only black musical dude that got away with Country Music mood swings in the 80’s.

When I say “Certain”, I’m referring to the people & artists in both of these cultures who never ever had this problem. If you know your Hip-Hop history, then you know it’s not the first time that Hip-Hop & Country has come together. There’s Kenny Rogers With Wyclef’s version of “The Gambler. Then there’s the DREADFUL collabo with Nelly & Tim Mccgraw (who is also a huge favorite of mine). Let’s not forget Snoop Dogg’s duet with Willie Nelson. Taylor Swift is also a huge T.I fan & for me as a member of the P-Funk camp, we had the pleasure of rocking with Nashville’s Musik Mafia members like Jon Nicholson & James Otto who just happen to be SERIOUS P-Funk fans. That brings us to the song.

I just find it very disturbing that some of the Hip-Hop community ran to the social media battlefield to diss, make jokes or chastise LL for this song as well as overanalyzing it with cries of “Morally Offensive” or “He is shaming the Black Community” just as I’m pretty sure there are some narrow minded Country music loving racists that’s dissing the shit out of Brad Paisley for linking up with a black Hip-Hop symbol. Leave it up to some of us “negroes” to define what it means to be Black or how one should represent their blackness. The same goes for a “redneck” to accuse Country artists of not being the true meaning of being Country like they did to Shania Twain when she decided to be sexy which was against the Nashville code of standard for women. The song is about forgiveness, understanding & most importantly, MOVING FORWARD. The new way that people of all color & races should be thinking in this 21st century. By the way, This is coming from the proud son of a Militant, Intelligent Black Panther Affiliated Mother so for people who plan to respond with ignorance or question who I am as a black man, I’ve saved you the trouble of making yourself look stupid

If one is truly Hip-Hop & know that man’s history, then you should know that LL HAS ALWAYS PLAYED BY HIS OWN RULES SO THIS SHOULDN’T REALLY SHOCK ANYBODY. This is the man who helped create the formula for commercial success when he recorded “I Need Love”…A song that damn near every macho B-Boy hated & criticized to death….UNTIL THEY STARTED COPYING LL’S BLUEPRINT WHICH THEY DO TO THIS VERY DAY. We know that “Accidental Racist” can’t change the world nor rewrite the ugly history but just like any song that deals with the saga of Racism, it opens up the room for a deep intelligent conversation whereas Nelly’s collab with Tim McGraw IN MY OPINION was a senseless dumb ass song that was more about record sales & if you ever saw the commercial for this song, you would understand why. And if this was LL’s reason which I highly doubt, then at least he had enough sense to use his Country collaboration to talk about a problem that still exists. At least he’s trying to create a solution while some of you other narrow minded, stuck in the past muthafuckers are still creating problems

If you don’t like the song based upon your own personal taste meaning that you find it corny, then that’s totally fine and makes sense based upon the universal law of Opinion. It’s not for everyone especially for those who don’t like Country or Rap. But all this overanalyzing & trying use the approval from the Black race shit needs to stop….THAT BRINGS ME TO THE NEXT & FINAL WORD ON THIS TOPIC

I see a lot of Rappers, Singers & Black Journalists/Bloggers having a whole lot to say on this LL topic BUT MANY WERE VERY VERY SILENT FOR RICK ROSS RAPE LYRICS & LIL WAYNE’S BLATANT DISRESPECT FOR EMMITT TILL ! Only very few spoke out while another few tried to defend them while many said NOTHING & remained neutral in the name of stupidity in fear of losing their quota or relationships with those artist. So for them nowadays, it’s much more EASIER to severely diss a legend when they make their own decision. To prove my point, I posed a theory to all these Industry heads in last month’s Lil Kim situation regarding her physical appearance. It was amazing to see folks take shots at her so I then said “God forbid if she died tomorrow, all of these Hip-Hop Publications, Bloggers & Historian will become even more phony as hell if they started to recognize her influence & accomplishments in the game & have something nice to say”. NOBODY RESPONDED TO THAT WHICH PROVED MY POINT ! Hip-Hop is the only genre of music in where we don’t hold our idols in high respect. Instead, we deem them irrelevant, find ways to be overcritical about their musical adventures that don’t necessarily fall in line with our standard musical taste & even worse, we side with wack ass new school artists in favor of keeping up with the times.

It’s this same kind of dumb ass thinking that will “accidentally” cause new amazing change especially if this song becomes popular among the Country Music Community because it will keep Brad in the top Country elite while giving LL another audience which extends his already long career in the process.. MORE POWER TO THEM ESPECIALLY LL ! Because unlike Hip-Hop & R&B Culture, COUNTRY MUSIC HONORS, REVERES & SUPPORT THEIR LEGENDARY ARTISTS NO MATTER WHAT MUSICAL STAGE THEY ARE AT OR IF THEY LAST ALBUM ONLY SOLD 10,000 COPIES !

HIP-HOP NEED TO GROW THE FUCK UP !

PS: I’ll TAKE THE LL & BRAD COLLAB OVER A RICK ROSS/2 CHAINZ/LIL WAYNE DUET ALBUM ANY DAY OF THE WEEK LOL

NKOTB “10” (The L*A*W Review)

image

If “The Block” was NKOTB’s Grown & Sexy comeback album, then “10” is the group’s “We Mastered The Game” album. Those Dorchester Boys HAVE DONE IT AGAIN !!

Mega dope production, intelligent structured songwriting & of course the catchy hooks. THIS ALBUM HAS IT ALL !!! As Donnie always jokingly says “The use of the words ‘OH’ & “Girl’ have been the keys to our song success”. On this album, Jonathan, Jordan, Donnie, Danny & Joey have the perfect rhythmic balance of serious Pop, Rock, Dance & of course, their R&B/Hip-Hop Roots which shows up a lot on this album. “The Block” was a mega dope sound collage combination of their previous albums with a new twist that allowed them to stay true to who they are while slowly catering to the mainstream radio sound that was in that era whereas “10” is not as musically adventurous as “The Block” but shows a strong vocal growth & an amazing visual look on how NKOTB has settled into their current musical direction or as we musicians say “finding their groove”. Jordan & Joey’s trademark incredible vocal ability is to be expected but the biggest wild card on this album is group leader Donnie Wahlberg who truly shines on this album showing a lot of vocal power on this album than he did on previous albums as well as range. Songs like “Back To Life”, “Now Or Never”, “Remix”,  ”Fighting Gravity” , “She’s A Killer”, “Go Out With A Bang” & especially “Survive You” are just the few among the standouts & my favorites ! Not to mention, It feels good to hear Jonathan & Danny sing more like they did in the old days

Being one of the few singing groups that still has the accessibility to still put out albums that matter & speak directly to their fan base (One of the A&R’s is actually a die hard Blockhead), “10” pretty much confirms what Donnie rapped on the group’s very first album: “WE’RE THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK & WE’RE HERE TO STAY

L*A*W: My Time With Teena Marie (RIP)

December 26th…..A Sunday I Will Never Forget

It had been well over 2 months since me & one of my idols had FINALLY got in touch & began speaking..There were NOOOOOOO words to describe how excited I was..Unlike most artists of her caliber, she took the time & listened to my album…Her favorite song on my album was “The Description” & she made it clear on Twitter that she wanted me to work with her on 1 of the 2 albums that she was working on during this time & even demanded that I send her my album which I did ASAP LOL…It was funny because I initially wanted to work with her very talented daughter Alia & I end up working with her mother instead which has been a dream of mine since I was a kid studying her first 4 classic Motown Albums which taught me a lot about Musicianship, Musical Diversity, Intricate Songwriting & Tight Arrangements

We traded numbers & kept in touch even more as I had found out that her cousin & my very good friend Jill Jones (Prince’s Protege) had told Teena more about me..Plus our Twitter convos about music were becoming a very popular thing on both our timelines which kind of helped to build the buzz behind us working together..The fans were very very excited…It was so crazy that we have yet to meet physically but through our convos, it felt like I had known her for years not to mention the fact that I sang back-up for Rick James as well as opened up for him in my aunt’s band Eturnity for one show during his “Urban Rhapsody” Tour run back in 1996 so there was enough connection to where this collaboration was bound to happen….and then bam ! I didn’t hear from her for almost close to a month. It bugged me because I was ready to send the track that I had in mind for her but didn’t want to do it without contacting her first to kind of set her up for it out of tremendous respect for the artist/producer she is…After all, I learned sooooo much from her !

well sure enough, 7 days before Christmas, I finally heard from her as she told me that she was in the hospital dealing with some stuff so of course, I was like “No Apology or Explanation Needed…Health is #1”…so we picked right back up where we left off in our usual conversations almost everyday in which she played a musical guessing game with me which was her way of saying “I know L*A*W knows his shit lol”…I guessed it right & her response to me was “Yeah L*A*W….That Real R&B….NOT THAT B.S THEY TRYING TO FEED US”…That would be the last time I would hear from her as on that sunday night while having family time, my phone & twitter feed was flooded with reports or questions that she had died…Of course, I just shot it down because of how Twitter always do dumb shit like that plus I just spoke to her. But after calling one of our mutual friends, I knew it was true..The unthinkable happened & I broke down right there

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about her especially if my IPOD goes to her section immediately, When she just happens to come on the radio, when “Square Biz” comes on & all the ladies sing the entire rap part at a party, club or BBQ or when I feel down about my musical mission & feel it’s not getting big enough, it’s her last words to me in that tweet that reminds me of what the mission is..One of the GREATEST, MOST INNOVATIVE, UNIQUE SINGER/SONGWRITER/MUSICIANS OF OUR TIME !! VANILLA CHILD…WILD & PEACEFUL WHO KEPT HER IRONS IN THE FIRE :) I LOVE YOU & MISS YOU SO MUCH LADY T :)  GOD BLESS YOUR BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER ALIA ROSE FOR CONTINUING YOUR ANGELIC LEGACY  !

TEENA MARIE (RIP)
